Coconut Palm Edible Uses
The Coconut palm is the most useful of all palms trees. This tree can satisfy all basic needs of people. All parts of the tree is useful.
A coconut is a staple in many countries. The nut is highly nutritious and contains a lof of vitamins and minerals. The fruit has many food uses.
The coconut has juice that called coconut water. People drink it from unripe green coconuts. The water is rich in sugar, fiber, antioxidants, protein and vitamins. It is used as traditional refreshing drink in many tropical countries. Peope drink it through a “straw” directly from freshly opened, baby green coconuts. The water replaces the missing minerals.
During my vacation in Thailand, i had coconut water for the first time. My thai friends recommended that i try the highly nutritious juice. I enjoyed its sweet flavour and cleansed my body.
Coconut milk is made of the meat of mature coconuts. Coconut milk and coconut water found inside the nut are not the same thing. Coconut milk is made by processing grated coconut with milk or hot water. It is rich in oil and sugar. The whitish liquid is used as a basic ingredient in many dishes in many countries. It can flavour soup, snack, vegetables, seafood and meat.
Coconut oil can be made from dried coconuts. Virgin oil is extracted from fresh coconuts. It is used for cooking in many asian countires. It is rich in healthy fatty acids.
The common alcoholic drink toddy (tuba) can be derived from the sap of the Coconut palm tree. The sap is used to make wine and vinegar. The fresh sap is very good for babies.
Some people eat the heart (palm-cabbage) of the Coconut palm. They boil it and use in salads. It is a rare delicacy because the removing the heart kills the tree.
Endless list of useful products can be derived from coconuts. People from many countries depend on this fruit. The Coconut palm can provide the majority of the food.
