the-coconut-treeThe Coconut palm is the most well-known and widely cultivated palm on the planet. Everybody always talks about its origin. It has been the subject of discussion and controversy for many years. In views of its origin scientists can’t agree. They can only agree that it is originated from hot areas near seas with abundant sunshine and regular rainfall.

Some scientists believe that the Coconut palm tree is native to Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines) and from there was spread throughout the world.

Other scientists claim that its native to Melanesia (geographical grouping of islands in the Pacific Ocean that distincts from Polynesia to Micronesia). And later in prehistoric time the tree was carried to coastal Asia, east Africa and the Atlatic coast of the Americas.

There is another strong possibility that the Cocos nucifera can be native to the Pacific coast of Central America.

Honestly speaking the origin of the Coconut palm is unknown. It could be one place, it could be several places at the same time. It could be the Asian continent, Central and South America or Africa.
